Smitten Kitchen does Thomas Keller's leek bread... →
I made this from the NYT adapted recipe in the fall, and it was really truly amazing. Now I’m ready to try this loaf pan version. Leeks are severely underrated.

The Arizona Law: Taking Civil Liberties Lessons... →

I did NOT have my passport with me, and had some of the more nervewracking 20...

Are There Really No Hipsters in China?
nycthe: Irony-resisting Chinese bicyclists have skipped the fixed-gear trend that has swept the rest of the world. J. David Goodman [Slate] Ha. No, there are no hipsters in China. Bicycles are transportation, not status symbols, and if you can afford a car, you buy one. It would be like some US hipster using an old Nokia 3110 phone to be ironic. This is silly.

“Almanzo ate the sweet, mellow baked beans. He ate the bit of salt pork that...”
– Pete Wells discovers the brilliance of children’s food writer Laura Ingalls Wilder, but he seems to stop with the hog butchering in Little House in the Big Woods. If you’ve read the whole series, Farmer Boy does have a plot, but the real purpose of the story seems to be to describe the...
